Oman Corridor: record-breaking installation at the UN Headquarters
On the second floor of the United Nations Headquarters in New York, just metres away from the General Assembly and Security Council, lies the Oman Corridor: a permanent installation of cultural and diplomatic representation commissioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman. Proasur was responsible for the technical development, production and installation of the entire project.
The challenge: a self-supporting structure over 10 metres long
The technical development was particularly demanding. The project required a large, entirely freestanding and self-supporting structure, over 10 metres long, capable of housing numerous audiovisual and lighting systems that remained fully accessible for maintenance. In addition, the required clear width for passage left very little margin to fit all the elements in without compromising circulation.
The installation incorporates four 98-inch screens built into large display cases, four additional 55-inch screens behind the seating area, and twelve speakers, all of it fully accessible despite being fully integrated.
Production and shipping in just a month and a half
All the structures were manufactured and pre-assembled at Proasur’s workshop before being shipped to New York, within a total timeframe of a month and a half. One of the biggest challenges was the wall cladding, with a stone-effect finish replicating the characteristic stone of Oman. Given its distinctive nature, it required a bespoke development of materials and finishes.
Transport was carried out using a combination of air freight, commercial shipping and sea freight directly to New York, with structures designed to be as lightweight as possible without compromising the structural strength needed for a fully self-supporting installation.
Overnight installation against the clock
Proasur’s installation team travelled to New York to complete the installation in two weeks. The work was carried out overnight, as the corridor remained in use during the day even while the installation was underway.
The goal was clear: to have the corridor fully operational in time for the 80th United Nations General Assembly, where Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs held an official presentation of the project. All the set objectives were met, within a timeframe that — from the contract award in May 2025 to the final installation — barely exceeded three months.
