Sistema expositivo itinerante de la exposición Historia de la Farmacia en la plaza de Porlier de Oviedo

Proasur produces and installs the travelling exhibition ‘History of Pharmacy’ in Oviedo

Proasur has technically developed, produced and installed the travelling exhibition system for ‘Historia de la Farmacia. El valor de la profesión farmacéutica’ (History of Pharmacy: The Value of the Pharmacy Profession). This open-air exhibition is promoted by the Spanish General Council of Pharmacists. Its first venue is Plaza de Porlier, in the heart of Oviedo, where it can be visited from 29 September to 29 October 2026.

The exhibition coincides with the 24th National Pharmaceutical Congress, held in the Asturian capital. Its aim is to bring the evolution of the pharmacy profession closer to the public, along with its contribution to public health, from its origins to the present day. The project has the support of the Spanish Ministry of Culture and the collaboration of CaixaBank Negocios Pharma.

A travelling exhibition system built for the street

Proasur has handled the exhibition system from start to finish: technical development, fabrication, panel printing, installation and coordination. The content and graphic design of the panels, meanwhile, are the work of the General Council. In addition, Proasur supplies the system on a rental basis for the entire tour.
Nota: en esta frase he quitado «diseño» de la lista de tareas de Proasur, siguiendo el criterio acordado para la versión inglesa. Así, el único design que aparece es el gráfico, atribuido al Consejo.

The installation comprises 11 steel totems with a Corten-effect paint finish. This warm, weathered tone blends naturally into a historic urban setting such as that of Porlier. Each totem consists of two bases and a large steel frame, from which the graphic panels are suspended using tensioners.

Likewise, the bases stand on adjustable feet that allow each piece to be levelled on the square’s stone paving. On their fronts, plaques identify the exhibition, the organising body and its partners. In this way, the furniture itself becomes part of the exhibition’s visual identity.

Installing the travelling exhibition system in nine hours

Before transport to Oviedo, the team carried out a pre-assembly of the bases, frames and graphics at the Olloniego workshop. This prior check makes it possible to identify any adjustments in the workshop, rather than resolving them on the street.

Thanks to this preparatory work, installation in the square was completed in just nine hours by a team of four. In a busy city-centre public space, keeping on-site work to a minimum is key to reducing disruption for residents, businesses and passers-by. This working method is part of our quality management system, certified to ISO 9001.

A reusable and adaptable travelling exhibition system

The exhibition is scheduled to visit three venues across Spain, with Oviedo as the first. At each move, both the totems and the graphics travel together, so only the cover panel is replaced with the details of each new venue.

Furthermore, the system has been conceived to have a useful life beyond this tour. The totems can be repainted or adapted for other events and installed outdoors again. This extends the life of the materials and avoids manufacturing new structures for each project.

A walk through the history of pharmacy

The route invites people strolling through the square to discover little-known episodes in the history of the profession. For example, the panels explore the origins of the medieval apothecary, scientific expeditions and the role of pharmacists in the army. They also look to the future, with biological medicines and new treatments.

In addition, the exhibition includes nods to Asturias, such as España Farmacéutica, the first Asturian professional pharmacy journal, published in Oviedo in 1915. Full details of the exhibition are available on the website of the 24th National Pharmaceutical Congress.

With this project, Proasur adds a new collaboration to its track record in museums, arts and culture. In each of them, the goal is to bring knowledge closer to all audiences through well-executed exhibition spaces.
