Covadonga Hospital - Operating Theatre

Led by Verónica Durán, architect and head of the architectural project, Covadonga Hospital offers a renewed vision of its facilities for personalised healthcare based on the concept of comprehensive health.

At Proasur, we have been responsible for refurbishing the rooms on the first floor of the east wing, the Women’s Institute (IDEMU) and the operating theatre area at Covadonga Hospital in Gijón. The latter, the operating theatre area, was one of the most challenging parts of the project. It was highly complex from a technical point of view, and our team only had one month to complete it, which was a major challenge.

In order to complete it on time, we relied on highly skilled professionals from different trades who were accustomed to working at a fast pace. At times, there were more than 40 workers simultaneously carrying out all the tasks involved in renovating a facility designed for surgical procedures.

Our team was responsible for developing a strategic plan with no margin for error, as they only had the month of August, when this operating theatre area is closed for holidays, to work with. This required extensive forecasting of material orders and the signing of contracts with professionals.

Despite the complexity of the project and the limited time available, we completed the work on schedule and with high-quality finishes, which was a great success.
